TRUSTEES

Richard Sambrook (Chairman) is Professor of Journalism and Director of the Centre for Journalism at Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies at Cardiff University. Previously, he worked for the BBC for 30 years, leaving his post as Director of the Global News Division in 2010.

 

Sue Phillips Joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in 1978 and became CBC’s London Bureau Chief in 1997. Later Managing Director of News World International . Appointed London Bureau Chief for Al Jazeera in 2004 promoted to Director of Foreign Bureaux in June 2008 and moved to the Al Jazeera headquarters in Doha where she managed 25 bureaux worldwide.

 

Flora Carmichael Senior Journalist at the BBC World Service. She has developed partnerships between BBC News and media organisations around the world and has delivered training for journalists and media professionals across Africa. She started her career at the Frontline Club, working on international partnerships in Russia and Eastern Europe, and later managed the operations of the Frontline Club Charitable Trust.

 

Will Clayton Hospitality entrepreneur, security and investigations trainer with Bluemoon College. Will lends his commercial acumen to the trustee team.

 

Paul Conroy British freelance photographer and filmmaker who works in the British media. A former soldier with the Royal Artillery between 1980 and 1987, he has since worked extensively as a journalist in combat zones, producing footage from conflicts in the Balkans, the Middle East, and Libya.

  • Salim Amin

    Salim Amin
    Salim Amin is Chairman of Camerapix, founder and Chairman of The Mohamed Amin Foundation and co-founder and Chairman of A24 Media. His 2006 documentary Mo & Me chronicles the life of his father, world-renowned photographer, cameraman and publisher, Mohamed “Mo” Amin. The film won 20 Awards for Best Documentary in the United States, Canada, India and on the African Continent, including the Grand Jury Award at the New York International Film Festival. In October 2014, Salim launched his weekly talk show The Scoop, speaking to great African personalities around the Continent, and reaching a global audience of over 200 million people on television and online.

    Jon Lee Anderson
    Jon Lee Anderson is foreign correspondent for The New Yorker, and the author of many books including The Fall of Baghdad. He has also written for The New York Times, Harper’s, Life, and The Nation. Anderson is a judge for the Frontline Club Awards.

  • Lyse Doucet

    Lyse Doucet
    Lyse Doucet is the Chief International Correspondent for BBC News. She has reported extensively from around the world with a particular focus on the Middle East, covering events from the Arab Spring to the 2004 Asian Tsunami. She was born in Canada and has received Peabody, Silver Sony and David Bloom awards for her work.

  • Lindsey Hilsum

    Lindsey Hilsum
    Lindsey Hilsum is Channel 4 News’ International Editor and the author of Sandstorm; Libya in the Time of Revolution. She has covered the major conflicts and refugee movements of the past three decades, including Iraq, Kosovo, Syria, Ukraine and Rwanda, winning several awards. She is a regular contributor to newspapers and literary journals and is currently writing a biography of the late war correspondent, Marie Colvin.

    Gary Knight
    Gary Knight is co-founder of the VII Photo agency and is the founder of the Program for Narrative Documentary Practice at Tufts University in Boston. His work has been widely published and exhibited all over the world, and he has been the recipient of numerous high-profile awards. Knight is a judge for the Frontline Club Awards.
